First Shots Program Back!

October 19th, 2010 Posted in Classes

Our popular First Shots program is back at the range December 4th and 18th.
First Shots is an introductory program for brand-new shooters, or for folks who haven’t shot a handgun in a long time.
The biggest challenge for new shooters is getting started. First Shots makes getting started in shooting very easy — and, best of all, it’s only $5.

At our First Shots seminar, you’ll receive an educational introduction to the safe and recreational use of firearms, a clear understanding of the local requirements for owning and purchasing a firearm, and a chance to give shooting a try!
The two-hour program includes an hour of classroom instruction, and and hour on the shooting range with a certified instructor close by. Cost is only $5, and covers all expenses, including use of the handgun, ammunition, instructional material, eye & ear protection, range time, and refreshments.

Our instructors are patient and kind, they remember how it was the first time they fired a handgun. After the class, the new shooter will know the safety aspects of shooting, how to sight a gun on the target, how to safely load, unload, and reload a handgun, and how to safely conduct themselves on the range.

We’ll have three sessions each day the 10 a.m. – noon session is for women only, and the sessions beginning at 1 pm and 4 pm are open to everyone. Youth who are at least 14 years old may attend if accompanied by a parent. Reservations are require, call the range at 353-4884 to reserve a spot. Class sizes are limited to ensure safety and good student-instructor ratios. These classes always fill up early, so call ahead to register and save a spot.

What New Shooters Have to Say

Los Angeles area residents on First Shots

After taking their First Shots at seminars held in the Los Angeles area, many first-time shooters borrowed a phrase from California’s governor: “I’ll be back.” Back to the range that is.  See what some of these new shooters had to say.

Chicagoans on First Shots

First Shots seminars have been held by a number of Chicago-area ranges. Said one attendee, “This seminar really changed my opinion and educated me greatly on gun safety and what it is to shoot a gun — and how much fun it is. I highly recommend it to everyone.”  See what others had to say.

What Ranges Have to Say

Jeff Pedro, owner of SimTrainer Academy in Dayton, Ohio:

“First Shots has been a tremendous boost to our range membership and course enrollment. About a quarter to half of all participants come back to the range. The program has proven to be our most effective recruiting tool. We frequently find ourselves adding additional classes due to such high interest in the community.”

Noel Incavo, president of Midwest Sporting Goods, Lyons, Illinois:

“In my opinion, it’s good public relations. You are doing something positive for the community, and you are supporting responsible firearms ownership. And as a businessman, at the end of the day, you’ll find that it is a money-maker.”

Peter Boruchowski, manager, Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center, Springfield, Mass.:

“Our First Shots seminars have been very successful. Nearly 75 percent of the attendees have purchased range memberships or additional training classes. This is a great opportunity to introduce our range and shooting sports to a whole new audience.”
