FIRST SHOTS Program for New & Beginning Shooters

April 7th, 2011 Posted in Classes, Events

As a special treat, the first session at 10 am is for kids and parents only! Kids need to be at least 12 years old, and an adult relative will be OK if the parent is not available. This class will be for rifle shooting, not handguns. The rifles used are single-shot .22’s, just right for a first-time shooter. Adults are welcome in this class, as long as they are accompanied by a relative who is between the ages of 12-18!

At 2 pm we’ll have an open First Shots program, for adults, and kids 14 and over accompanied by a parent. This session will be for handguns. The range provides everything needed for the class – firearm, ammunition, and safety gear, and of course, instruction and safe range supervision.

First Shots is an introductory program for brand-new shooters, or for folks who haven’t shot a firearm in a long time.
The biggest challenge for new shooters is getting started. First Shots makes getting started in shooting very easy — and, best of all, it’s only $5. (The kids & parents program is free, but reserve your place early!)

At our First Shots seminar, you’ll receive an educational introduction to the safe and recreational use of firearms, a clear understanding of the local requirements for owning and purchasing a firearm, and a chance to give shooting a try!
The two-hour program includes an hour of classroom instruction, and an hour on the shooting range with a certified instructor close by. Cost is only $5 (kids free when accompanied by a paying parent), and covers all expenses, including use of the handgun, ammunition, instructional material, eye & ear protection, range time, and refreshments.

Our instructors are patient and kind, they remember how it was the first time they fired a firearm. After the class, the new shooter will know the safety aspects of shooting, how to sight a gun on the target, how to safely load, unload, and reload a firearm, and how to safely conduct themselves on the range.

Reservations are required, call the range at 353-4884 to reserve a spot. Class sizes are limited to ensure safety and good student-instructor ratios. These classes always fill up early, so call ahead to register and save a spot.
